How to Increase Your Home’s Curb Appeal in a Weekend

Though it may sound ambitious, improving your home’s curb appeal in a single weekend is completely possible with some thoughtful planning and manageable projects. Even small changes can make a big impact. Here are several tips to boost the appearance of your home in just a couple of days.

Refresh Your Front Door

The front door is usually the focal point of any home and is the first thing people see. A fresh coat of paint in a bold color, or even a new stain for wooden doors, can make a huge difference. You can also replace your door handle, knocker, or house numbers with more modern or polished fixtures for a sleek look.

Spruce Up Your Landscaping

Use seasonal flowers in planters, hanging baskets, or garden beds. Make sure they are colorful and complement the overall aesthetic. Neaten up overgrown plants and trees for a well-maintained appearance. Keep bushes trimmed and the grass mowed. Use a lawn edger to clean up the borders of your driveway, sidewalks, and flower beds.

Clean and Power Wash

Power-washing the exterior of your home can have a huge effect, especially if the exterior home material keeps dirt and debris trapped. Clean siding, decks, and patios with a power washer to remove dirt, mold, and mildew. Make sure all windows are spotless, both inside and out, to give the home a bright, fresh look.

Upgrade Outdoor Lighting

New lighting can dramatically update the look of your home’s exterior. Replace outdated light sources with fixtures that complement your home’s style. Line your walkway with solar-powered lights for a welcoming ambiance and increased safety.

Enhance the Walkway and Driveway

Fill in any cracks or uneven areas in the driveway and walkway for a smooth, attractive finish. Not only does this enhance the look, but it also increases the safety. If budget allows, lay new pavers or gravel on the pathway to elevate its look. A new doormat or welcome sign gives the entrance a warm, inviting feel, and other decorations, like a door wreath or planters, add to the appeal.

Keep It Clean

This may be the simplest, but most effective tip to increasing your home’s curb appeal: keep everything clean. This means tidying up the front yard, raking leaves, pulling weeds, and picking up any clutter. Keep the porch clean by removing unnecessary items, and consider placing a few decorations or a porch swing to make it more inviting. If possible, keep garbage and recycling containers in a garage or shed when not in use, and when the snow falls, shovel the driveway and walkways.
