The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has long since been an attractive spot for real estate, allowing homeowners the option of having a spacious home and backyard while still being within commuting distance to the city. As the most populated metropolitan area in Canada, the GTA consists of Toronto and the municipalities of Halton, Peel, York and Durham.

As of October, the average home price across the Toronto region hit $1,155,345. We’ve compiled a list of affordable houses currently on the market priced under $649,900 in the Greater Toronto Area.

Prospective buyers should conduct further research and pricing analysis for the homes and neighbourhoods that match their financial circumstances and lifestyle needs to guide their individual decisions. 1. Cheapest Homes for Sale in The City of Toronto

The City of Toronto includes the areas of Etobicoke to the west and Scarborough to the east. The average price for a home in the city in October was $1,122,463.

2. Cheapest Homes for Sale in Peel Region

Peel Region is located west of the City of Toronto, and includes the cities of Brampton and Mississauga, and the more rural area of Caledon. The average cost for a home in Peel Region in October was $1,065,595.

3. Cheapest Homes for Sale in York Region

York Region is located north of the City of Toronto and includes a number of cities, including Newmarket, Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan, in addition to rural areas such as Georgina and King. The average cost for a home in this region was $1,376,939 in October.

4. Cheapest Homes for Sale in Durham Region

Durham, located east of Toronto, has long been known as one of the most affordable areas to live in the GTA. It includes a number of small cities, like Oshawa, Ajax, Clarington and Whitby as well as small towns like Scugog and Uxbridge. The average price for a home in Durham in October was $988,354.

5. Cheapest Homes for Sale in Halton Region

Halton is located west of the City of Toronto, beyond the Region of Peel, and includes the cities of Milton, Burlington and Oakville. It also includes Halton Hills, a more rural community. The average price for a home in Halton in October was $1,305,714.
